I did it. I wrote over 50,000 words of a novel in under a month. And the novel's not done. Oh, no. It's only a few chapters over halfway there. I'm going to have a hell of a time editing it when I'm done, but for now I'm just going to keep spewing up story until I can call my efforts a complete novel. I like my characters. I like the world I can see when I write it. I like what my main character is doing with herself, and how the story is progressing. I hate my obsession with where commas should go, and my desire to constantly go back and edit what I just wrote three seconds ago. I confess I would have hit 50,000 much sooner if I'd been better able to control my inner editor.

Still, I learned I could tone down that pesky part of me that wants to fuss about fixing verbs and improving sentence structure. It will still be there, ready and willing, when I give it a complete novel to edit to its heart's content.

I'll need a month to sleep in after all of this writing and editing comes to a close. I only hope I'll end up with a readable and enjoyable (to people other than me) novel when I'm done.

Off to bed. Good night!

Thanks, Melissa! I'm not sure if I'll do it again next year or not, but the experience was great. Especially doing it with so many other people to talk to about it. :)

Yes, I really think it was more fun with cheering each other on.

Congrats!!!!! I registered but couldn't keep it up. I guess I could make excuses about the crazy drama that my life has experienced over the month of November, but I'm definitely doing it next year!!

It's definitely worth doing it at least once. If I'm not still working on the same story next year, I might try it again. We'll see. :)
